Microsoft updates Surface Duo with security updates for Android through December 2022.

Microsoft has started distributing security updates for Android as of December 2022 to Surface Duo devices. Users of the Surface Duo 2 received the November fixes last month, however the December update has not yet been made available to these devices. As you would expect, the latest December update offers no changes except the security fixes. If you’re interested in reading the official changelog in its entirety, it is provided below.

It is important to note that these firmware updates are being released in stages, so not all Surface Duo devices will receive updates at once. All Surface devices will eventually receive the most recent firmware, though. However, there are three things you should watch out for before downloading it:

  1. Updated software cannot be uninstalled or rolled back to a previous version.
  2. If your Surface doesn’t already have them, you’ll also receive all the prior updates when you install the most recent one. Only Surface Duo-specific updates will be downloaded and set up.
  3. Tap Restart now when the updates have been installed.

In other Surface Duo news, Microsoft is rumoured to be working on a Surface Insider Program for Duo devices to test new features with beta testers. If everything goes according to plan, the corporation may begin the Insider programme early in the next year. Microsoft will use the Surface Insider Program to test new features thoroughly before releasing them to the wider public.

Have you downloaded the update if you have a Surface Duo? If so, you are welcome to discuss your thoughts on the newest firmware in the comments area.
