In addition to announcing the RTX 4000 series in September, Nvidia also said that it is integrating its RTX suite of improvements into the venerable puzzle game Portal. Raytracing, DLSS 3 (for RTX 4000 cards), newly created textures, and other features are improving the experience thanks to the new paint job. Anyone with a graphics card that supports raytracing will be able to utilise Portal with RTX for free when it launches on Steam as an optional free DLC to the original Valve experience from 15 years ago. Utilizing its RTX Remix suite, which lets users to create RTX-technologies adding mods for existing games, Nvidia developed the project internally.
Nvidia offers the following description of the game’s enhanced graphics:
Full ray tracing in Portal using RTX alters each level, allowing light to bounce and be impacted by the geometry and materials of the scene. Every light is ray-traced and creates shadows; volumetric ray-traced lighting diffuses through fog and smoke; global illumination indirect lighting naturally brightens and darkens spaces; and shadows are pixel-perfect.
The business has also disclosed the Minimum, Recommended, and Ultra requirements for achieving playable frame rates.
The official date for the release of Portal with RTX DLC has now been disclosed by Nvidia to be December 8.The Steam store page can be found here.
