Many of Twitter’s users have started switching to other comparable social media networks, like Mastodon, ever after business tycoon Elon Musk gained control of the platform. Hive, another competitor to Twitter, is also experiencing a sharp rise in sign-ups and currently has one million users.

TechCrunch said that Hive had already begun to gain traction before Musk bought Twitter. The app experienced another spike in sign-ups over the weekend when hundreds of Twitter employees rejected Elon Musk’s ultimatum. According to app intelligence company Sensor Tower, it is presently one of the most popular apps on the Google Play and US App Stores.
Hive is a social media app that mixes ideas from several social networks, like Instagram and Twitter, and was founded in 2019 by “Raluca.” The app has a Home feed and other topic-based communities, including those for cars, music, fashion, travel, technology, memes, pets, crafts, and books. You can click on hashtags, like, comment on, and repost content.
Like Twitter, Hive operates on a follower-based model. Similar to MySpace, you can customise your pronouns, show your astrological sign, and even add your favourite music to your page (this feature is still in the works, according to the app).
Hive displays content in a chronological feed rather than using personalisation algorithms like most social networks. Ads are not used to monetize it either. Instead, Hive lets you open up more spaces for their preferred tunes. A second spot will cost you $0.99, while a third and fourth slot will cost you $1.99, according to the app’s description on the App Store.
Currently, Hive only works on iOS and Android mobile devices and does not have a desktop client.
Download their apps from the Apple App Store and Google Play Store if you wish to join Hive.
