Finally, a date is set for the next-generation update of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.

It has been two years since CD Projekt RED revealed that a modernised version of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt was being created that would be optimised for the most recent console generations. Now that numerous delays have passed, the version can eventually be officially launched on December 14, 2022.

Anyone who already owns the popular fantasy role-playing game—which has more than 40 million players—can upgrade for free. Although the studio hasn’t provided any additional information regarding the updates, it has previously stated that this version will include visual and technical upgrades, ray tracing additions, and faster loading times.

With new DLC based on the Netflix adaptation, the next-generation edition was scheduled to debut in the second half of 2021. The upgrade was eventually postponed until 2022, but after yet another slide earlier this year, the studio was forced to delete any references to a launch timetable. In the latter delay, CD Projekt RED took over Saber Interactive’s development of the project.

The studio will webcast a gameplay and feature reveal livestream on its Twitch channel the following week. The showcase’s precise timing hasn’t yet been disclosed.

The PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5 platforms will all receive the next-generation update for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, with owners of previous-generation console editions receiving a free update. In addition to a new trilogy of games built in the same universe, CD Projekt is also working on a remake of the first The Witcher game.
